Year 2012 Tributes

For pet names beginning with "V".

Valkitty was my big orange tabby. She was rescued from off the street. The neighbors said her family moved and just left her behind. That was 8 months before we got her.

She was skinny and dirty, and scared. She was close to feral, wild, biting and scratching. After we took her in, she hid for days. We would put food and water out, and it would be gone, but we didn't see her eat. Then she began to show herself.

Little by little, she gained trust. Within a year, she was sleeping on my belly at night. She got the nickname: Rusty Butt.

Every once in awhile, Val would lay on her back paws in the air, looking so very haughty and show-off. Whoever saw her first would holler "Nipples Up!". She gave us so much joy.

She was our baby girl. She loved to push her face into a hand or lap and sleep. Val was sick for almost a year. Tonight, our Vet came to the house and freed her to go to the Rainbow Bridge. We knew the time would come, but I wasn't prepared for the depth of sorrow I felt or how much I would be crying. It hurts.

Val, I love you, sweet girl. I miss you. I will meet you at the Rainbow Bridge sweetie.
