Max the cat that came for free
Your old head rests upon my knee
I think of you, I think of me
I think of Jason--then just three
And Max the cat that came for free.
The pet shelter wasn't busy then
We poked around the cat filled pens
Till we looked all around
And back again
It would be so hard to decide
There were so many pleading eyes
That called to us as we walked by
But in a box, a tiny nose, and dark green eyes and
White socked toes fought to be noticed from the rest
Maxwell picked us, that's what I'd guess
We all had such a fun filled day
We watched our kitten, as he'd play
And when a cat he did become
We still shared many times of fun
The years go by so fast it seems
Sometimes, as if inside a dream
And through the years Max made us smile
And made us mad once in awhile!
But he was ours right from the start
And curled up neatly round our heart.
But now old friend it's time to go
Your fur grows thin your moves are slow
But I will pet you till you sleep
For your love I will always keep
For in my heart you'll always be
Max the cat that came for free
Dedicated in memory of Max
